Video Marketing How-To: Creating an Episodic Video Series

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Video Marketing How-To! This week we want to reflect a bit on how we put this series together, and how you can be successful in your own episodic content.

First off, decide on your topics in advance. Building episodic video is a lot like developing blog content – if you don’t know what you’re speaking on, it’s difficult to plan out a content calendar that works. Choose five or six topics, pen down a timeline, and start working on scripts.

The next step is making sure you have the right tools. We are lucky enough here at Vidyard to have a full studio setup that I can take advantage of, but creating video doesn’t have to be difficult. I essentially use a basic lighting setup, one camera, and iMovie, which came with my Macbook.

The last step in the process? Commit to putting out content on a regular basis, and learn from your previous videos. We started off with an engagement rate of 30% in the last 10 seconds, and have worked with each video to tweak the format, and now we’re seeing over 50% engagement in the last 10 seconds, and viewers like you are watching for longer.

I hope you enjoy these videos, and that you make the time to develop a video strategy around making episodic content for your audiences. Be sure to check out our Video Marketing Institute if you want to start producing your own video – it covers video production from strategy to promotion all the way up to what equipment you should pick up.

Have a great day, and join me in another few weeks for another episode!
